SHORT DEFINITIONS

Application Software

Software which is designed to do a specific task is called application software.

 

Input Devices

Input Devices are used to enter data and instructions into the computer. i.e Keyboard, Mouse, Mic and Scanner are the examples of input devices.

 

Output Devices

Output Devices are used to receive the results from CPU in the form of electrical signals and convert them into readable form and their display. i.e. Monitor, Printer, Plotters and Speakers are examples of output devices

 

Data 

A collection of raw facts and figures is called Data, which can include text, numbers, images, audio and videos etc.

 

Word Processor

Word Processor helps you to create any type of written communication like a letter, a report, a memo or any other type of text data.

 

Cell

The intersection of a column and row is called cell. Cell stores information.

 

Website

A website is a collection of related webpages.

 

Function

A pre-defined method of calculation is called formula.

 

Formula

A self-made method of calculation is called formula.

 

Hard Copy

Output on the printed paper or other permanent media is called hard copy.

 

Information

The Processed Form of data is called information.

 

Bitmap Images

Bitmap images are also known as raster image which are made up of a mosaic of picture elements, called Pixels. When Bit-mapped images enlarged, their edges appear rough and jagged.

 

Vector Images

The images consist of lines and curves that are defined mathematical objects are called vector images. Vector images can alter to large size without making their edges rough or jagged. Vector images are ideal for web pages because they are small in size. Vector based images commonly used in Computer Aided Drawing and digital drawing software like Corel Draw, Adobe Illustrator.

 

Adobe Photoshop

Adobe Photoshop enables to create, modify, combine and optimize digital images. Photoshop excels at editing photograph.

 

CorelDraw

CorelDraw is a graphics application that is used to design advertisement, logo, cards, brochure newsletters, banner, and images and so on for print or for web.

 

Mainframe Computer

Mainframe Computers are large in size. They have Large Storage and Memory. These computers are used in large companies like Banks, Industries etc. These computers are expensive and Multi Users can work on it at the same time.

 

Worksheets

Microsoft Excel consists of worksheets. Each Worksheet contains columns and rows. The Columns are lettered A to Z and then continuing with AA, AB, AC and So on to XFD (16384) the rows are numbered 1 to 1,048,576.

 

Text box

A text box, text field or text entry box is a control element of a graphical user interface, that should enable the user to input text information to be used by a program.
